What If My Tongue Ring Is Too Short

Cathedral Church of the Carmine

Main works:
Please note, among the major works of art from the Duomo, the magnificent Chapel of the Treasury (or San Gennaro), with frescoes by Domenichino and Giovanni Lanfranco (to whom we owe the fresco on the dome of Heaven with steps), altarpieces Domenichino, Massimo Stanzione, Jusepe de Ribera (called The Spaniard), the rich altar by Francesco Solimena, Cosimo the bronze gate of Fanzago and a profusion of statues, chandeliers, reliquaries (including that of San Gennaro, French goldsmiths of the fourteenth century).
Other works: the crypt (Succorpo), the work of Thomas Lombard Malvern, planting Bramante, an Assumption of Pietro Perugino, and several paintings and frescoes of the fourteenth century, including those of the rich chapel Minutolo mentioned in Boccaccio's Decameron). In Santa Restituta, redecorated in the eighteenth century, we must mention the chapel of St. Mary of the Standard, with a mosaic of Lello da Orvieto, some remarks on medieval and early Christian baptistery, with a series of mosaics of the fourth century. The main chapel

:
The main chapel of the cathedral was also rebuilt in the eighteenth century by the Siena (but of the Roman school) Paolo Posi, the wall shows a spectacular baroque relief of the Assumption, by Pietro Bracci (an artist who was working on the sculpture of the Trevi Fountain) and was inspired by Bernini's Altar of the Chair in St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican.

The facade :
The current facade was restored by Enrico Alvino at the end of the nineteenth century, but retains the fifteenth century portal, by Antonio Baboccio, which reused a number of sculptures by Tino Camaino.
Beside the Cathedral, the Archbishop's Palace is the seat of the Archdiocese of Naples, currently headed by Cardinal Sepe.
